Privacy Policy

The short version: Overlaysmith puts your image onto your camera video on your own computer, then hands the result to your video call. Your video, your images and your calls never come to us — the extension contains no code that sends them anywhere. The data policy is the architecture, not a promise.

01 What Overlaysmith does not collect

Camera video.: Each frame of your camera is combined with your image in your computer's memory and passed straight to your call. Nothing is recorded, saved to disk or sent anywhere by the extension. The only place your video goes is the call you chose to join, exactly as it would without Overlaysmith. Before a call starts, the optional preview can show your image on the camera the call page has already opened — on your screen only; nothing is sent until your call sends video.
Your images.: Images you import, and lower thirds you type, are resized and stored on your own computer. They are never uploaded. When an image has a solid green background, the green is removed on your computer as part of that import. A veil you add to an image is made on your computer too, as a new copy.
Prompts and AI tools.: Overlaysmith contains no AI. Its prompt templates are text the extension copies to your clipboard when you click Copy; you paste it into an AI image tool of your choice yourself. The extension never contacts that tool, never names one, and never reads your clipboard. What you type into the tool, and the images it makes, are between you and that tool, under its own terms and privacy policy.
Call information.: Overlaysmith does not read participant names, chat messages, meeting titles, links, page content or audio. It works only with the camera video your browser is about to send.
Usage or behavioral data.: No analytics, telemetry, crash reporting or usage statistics of any kind.
Advertising or tracking data.: No tracking pixels, fingerprinting or advertising identifiers.
Personal information (free version).: The free version needs no account, no email address and no registration.

02 Local storage

Overlaysmith stores the following on your computer only, using Chrome's extension storage:

Your overlay images and their names, with the details measured when each was imported: its size and format, how much of the frame it covers, whether a green background was removed, and whether it is a veiled copy of another image
Which image is currently selected, or that the overlay is off, and when you last chose one
Whether calls should start with no image
Whether the outgoing preview panel is turned on
Whether this browser has the clean version — bought, or unlocked with a code
A short note when the overlay paused itself on a call, so the popup can tell you why

This data stays on your machine and is controlled by you. Deleting an image removes it. Uninstalling the extension removes all of it.

03 External connections

Overlaysmith makes one kind of network connection, and it never involves your video, your images or your calls.

License check (ExtPay).: The extension contacts ExtPay, an independent payment service for Chrome extensions, to check whether you've bought the clean version, and ExtPay processes that payment if you do. This happens for every installation, bought or not: ExtPay creates an anonymous account key the first time the extension runs. ExtPay keeps that key and your purchase status in Chrome's sync storage where it's available — so if you're signed in to Chrome with sync turned on, Chrome may sync that entry to your other browsers. None of it involves your video, your images or your calls. ExtPay's privacy policy is at extensionpay.com/privacy.

There are no other connections. Overlaysmith does not operate servers of any kind, does not load remote code, and does not load external scripts that change how the extension works after installation.

04 Chrome permissions

Overlaysmith asks for as little as it can. Each permission is used only for the purpose described.

storage: Saves your images and settings on your computer, as listed above.
unlimitedStorage: Images take more room than Chrome's default storage allows. This only affects how much can be kept on your own computer; it does not enable any remote or cloud storage.
Access to specific video-call sites: Overlaysmith runs only on meet.google.com, teams.microsoft.com, teams.live.com, *.jit.si, *.whereby.com, *.heyyep.com and *.zoom.us. On those sites it adds your image to the camera video your browser sends, and shows the optional preview panel. It does not read the content of the sites it runs on.
Access to extensionpay.com: ExtPay's library, included in the extension, runs on ExtPay's payment and sign-in pages so the extension learns when a purchase or sign-in is complete and can remove the mark straight away. Overlaysmith's video code never runs there, and neither this nor the call-site access above extends to any other site.

None of these permissions are used for advertising, tracking, analytics or profiling.

05 Security model

All video processing happens in your browser, on your computer
Video frames exist in memory only while being drawn — never written to disk
Overlaysmith operates no servers and receives no user data
No account or registration for the free version
No remote code, no external scripts that change the extension after installation
Updates are distributed only through the Chrome Web Store

06 Clean version (email)

If you buy the clean version, your email address is used by ExtPay for purchase and license verification, so the license can follow you to other computers. Overlaysmith does not collect or store your email separately. See ExtPay's privacy policy for how it handles account data.

07 This website

overlaysmith.com has no analytics, advertising, cookies or tracking scripts. Its fonts are served from this site, not from a third-party font service. If you use the light/dark switch, your choice is remembered in your own browser's local storage — it stays on your device and is never sent anywhere. If you email us, your message and address are used only to reply to you.

08 Children's privacy

Overlaysmith is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children — or from anyone.

09 Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page changes with it. Material changes will be noted in the extension's update notes. Continued use of the extension after changes means you accept the updated policy.
